As a photographer, I often take my own family to visit the Steamboat area for vacation when I have photo sessions. Steamboat Springs is known for its incredible natural beauty, but there’s far more to do than just go sightseeing! I’ve put together a few of my favorite things to do in Steamboat Springs that the whole family can enjoy while staying active and enjoying some of the features that make the area one of the best in the state (in my opinion)!

4 Things to Do in Steamboat Springs to Experience Breathtaking Views & Unforgettable Activities

Howelsen Ice Complex

The Howelsen Ice Complex has an Olympic-size rink perfect for various on-ice activities like hockey, ice skating, and broomball. Whether taking a class, joining a league, or dropping in for Public Skate, it’s a great way to improve your skills and get a great workout, regardless of age!

They also have Bumper Cars on Ice, a fun and interactive activity where you can spin, glide, and bump across the ice during a 20-minute bumper car session. You’ll love making memories while playing at Howelsen Ice Complex – just bring your sweatshirts because it’s refreshingly chilly inside!

Old Town Hot Springs

Old Town Hot Springs is a non-profit center for health and wellness and one of Colorado’s premier hot springs! It’s a family-friendly recreation facility with a world-class gym right in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs. At the core of Old Town Hot Springs is the Heart Spring, an all-natural mineral hot spring that pumps warm water out of the ground.

The Heart Spring is only open to guests 18 and older, but there are plenty of other pools, spas, and hot tubs to enjoy. In addition, Old Town Hot Springs has a rock climbing wall for adventurous guests, personal training and group fitness classes for those seeking a good workout, and massage therapy available for anyone needing some relaxation (and childcare while you get your massage)!

Gondola Rides

Steamboat Springs is incredibly beautiful, with scenic views that can take your breath away. But as phenomenal as the vistas are from the ground, they’re even more impressive from high above. Steamboat Ski Resort on Mount Werner offers scenic lift rides in the summer months so visitors can access the mountaintop.

Take in the unmatched panoramic views of Yampa Valley, Steamboat Springs, and the surrounding mountains as you ascend. Then, once you’re at the top, you can step out and explore, taking pictures of the stunning landscapes (although the pictures are never quite like seeing the real thing for yourself in person).

Fish Creek Falls

Fish Creek Falls is one of the most popular attractions in Steamboat Springs, with clear high alpine waters cascading down Fish Creek Canyon. It’s a spectacular sight to see how the waterfall plunges 280 feet down the smooth rocks, simultaneously graceful and incredibly powerful.

There is a short ¼ mile walk down a gravel path that gives you a fantastic view of the lower falls. A more moderate hike will lead you to Upper Fish Creek Falls and Long Lake for even more picturesque views. It’s a great way to experience Steamboat Springs in its natural beauty.
