If you're booking a newborn session, no need to pick a date at the time of booking! Most babies come on their own timing. I encourage you to wait until they are Earth-side to see how you are recovering and how siblings are adjusting. Some families want their session in the first two weeks when baby is tiny, and others like to wait until baby gains weight and is more alert. My sessions include baby-led posing based on their needs, so I support whatever you choose! My sessions take place M-F, but weekend dates may be available for an additional $100.
1. NEWBORN
I typically schedule maternity when mama is 32-36 weeks along. You'll give me an idea of your ideal timing based on due date for maternity or any birthdays for milestone. I'll provide you with some available M-F dates and you can choose the start time between 9:30am-2pm. In most cases, you are my only appointment of the day. Weekend dates may be available for an additional $100.
2. Maternity & Milestone
I keep a live booking link with all of my available dates and add to it whenever I am able to open more. You'll notice a start time attached to each date, which is approximately one hour before sunset. Some locations require us to start a little earlier based on their proximity to a mountain. You'll receive my full location guide to help you choose your locations, and we can discuss any changes to my estimated start time.

Planning
The Session
Once we have your session fully on the books, you'll begin to receive planning materials for everything from wardrobe to setting your kids up for success.
Studio sessions include complimentary use of the Photography by Alyssum client closet plus unlimited styling assistance through Style & Select. You are welcome to set up a time for a fitting if you'd like to borrow any of these items.
Two days before your session, you will receive one final confirmation of our time and location along with a last minute checklist for the day-of.
If your session is outdoors and the weather looks iffy, we will stay in communication with each other in case we need to reschedule. I'm sure you are more than aware of our fickle Colorado weather, so unfortunately it's impossible to make weather predictions too far in advance. Most of the time, any summer storms on the forecast are gone in time for a beautiful sunset.
Take a breath and relax! I promise that we're going to have a fun time together. Most sessions take about 60 minutes, and in most cases, you are my only client that day. Sometimes we get everything we need in the first 30 minutes, and sometimes we need extra time for meltdowns or snacks.

First of all, I'm a parent too and I totally understand your side of it! They are going to be kids and as a photographer, that's A-OK to me! They might cry, not listen, run off and possibly even have a full-blown meltdown. I promise I've seen way worse (may or may not have been my own family pictures lol) and as your photographer, I am not bothered by it at all. I am still getting great photos, so try not to panic and shut down. Keep smiling! If you look happy, the photo has a much higher chance of being a successful one. I thrive on the “mess” of your family and I will show you the beauty.

Yes! And this is my favorite way to get to know each other. You can choose only the sessions that are important to your family. Want to capture your pregnancy in the studio in February and an outdoor family session in September when baby is all chubby cheeked and smiles? Or maybe maternity, newborn, and first birthday all in my cozy, neutral studio? You get to decide the number of sessions, and there's a package discount to go with it!
Yes, I understand this is a meaningful investment. Flexible payment options are available so you can prioritize documenting your family without added stress. My standard plan is three split payments per session. If you require something different, don't hesitate to inquire and we can split it up differently. I don't ever want anyone to miss capturing these precious days. (Please note, no images will be delivered before payment in full.)
I'll give you as much or as little wardrobe guidance as you'd like to make this part feel easy. I help you choose pieces that photograph beautifully, feel comfortable, and reflect your family's natural style. My personal style that you see reflected in my work is a curated blend of neutral colors, cozy textures, and simple layers. Whether you'd like to do a casual vibe or a more traditional look, I'll help you choose pieces that photograph well.
You will receive your proofing gallery within one week of your session, and you will choose your images from there. Your finished gallery is delivered with care and intention, typically within a few weeks after your selections. I take time to thoughtfully edit each image so your final gallery feels cohesive and timeless.
Yes! I love mountain sunrise and sunset sessions, and I have a great list of stunning locations to recommend. In many cases there is no travel fee, but availability may be limited to certain locations. If you have a special spot in mind, or even a destination outside of Colorado, I'm happy to talk through it!
I bring a calm, patient approach, especially with little ones. I don’t expect your family to perform. Instead, I create a space where you can simply be together, and I gently guide moments that feel real and connected.

Our experience with Alyssum was so seamless! She is quick to respond, clear with her communications, and incredibly talented. I also loved the outfit choices she had available for me to choose from to wear for our session (this was an important option for me to have as it just makes life so much easier with a newborn!!) Alyssum was great to work with for our daughter's newborn pictures. We booked months in advance and she was very flexible, had incredible communication, and was transparent through the whole process! Her client closet was amazing and took the stress off of the whole process. Alyssum was amazing at keeping our daughter comfortable while working quickly. She also was so patient and kind with our new parents, sleep-deprived selves. She was considerate and made sure poses were comfortable for me post-partum. The photos and moments Alyssum captures are SO incredibly beautiful! I always feel like it's such chaos during the photos as we have two toddlers but Alyssum always manages to capture so many incredible shots that are truly reflective of this season of our lives. Our sessions with Alyssum are very relaxed, fuss-free and joyful while doing something that could be so much more stressful for mom and dad. In all honesty I dread family photos, but they were a breeze with Alyssum. We have one child diagnosed with autism and she did great at getting those rare shots of eye contact. I was also impressed with her ability to hold her camera and catch our son who jumped right in the water. She is extremely patient and I appreciate her willingness to get on our children’s level.

Alyssum is an AMAZING photographer. I just moved to the area a couple years ago and we had been flying back to California to have our photos taken with our long time photographer. I’m very picky and finding a good one is hard!! A few of our neighbors had used her and I LOVED her work. She is so talented and captures families so well. So glad we used her and will continue to do so. Already can’t wait for our next session. BUT, when you see her sessions come available you must book ASAP cuz she’ll sell out like that day!
