There are always fun and free things to do in Castle Rock with kids. It’s one of the reasons we chose to live in this town when we first moved here. I have brought my family all over the city to research these fun activities the entire family will enjoy.

Visit Philip S. Miller Park in Castle Rock

No list of things to do in Castle Rock would be complete without this park that has something for everyone! It’s a full 300 acres of family adventure. Check out the adventurous Challenge Hill, which is the family-friendly cousin of the Manitou Incline! Your family will enjoy the ADA accessible adventure playground and hiking trails throughout. In the summer, you’ll want to visit the splash pad for more things to do, and you might even catch one of the Splash Mobs to enjoy a water gun fight with our favorite CRPD and Castle Rock Fire & Rescue! You’ll also love the Tunes for Trails, Perks for Parks free concert series in the summer. This doesn’t even scratch the surface of things to do in this park!

Things to Do at Festival Park in Castle Rock

The summer and fall are bursting with free activities, and my personal favorite is taking the family to concerts in Festival Park in downtown Castle Rock. Concerts are always free, and you can set up your blanket and chairs or find a seat for your family under the pavilion. You can find a complete list of all of the events planned by the Downtown Merchant’s Association here.

Storytime at The Library

The Douglas County Library has a beautiful children’s section full of books and pretend-play toys. Nurture your child’s love for reading and desire to be social by taking them to one of the storytimes at the Douglas County Library in Castle Rock. You’ll find special times for babies up to two years old, toddler ages, as well as children up to five years old. If you can’t make it to the scheduled time, you can also catch it virtually by clicking on one of the recorded gatherings. Keep your eye out for the brand-new library to be opening in 2023!

Hike Rock Park Open Space

Has your family visited the historic landmark that gave Castle Rock its name? It’s a mile-and-a-half unpaved trail up to the base of the rock with panoramic views of Pikes Peak and the front range.
