You have so much to plan before your little one arrives — the nursery, the name, the hospital bag that somehow never feels quite ready. It’s easy for photography to fall to the bottom of the list, right up until you’re holding your sweet baby and realize you desperately want someone to capture this. As a Denver newborn photographer, I hear from so many parents who wish they had reached out just a little sooner! Here’s everything you need to know about when to book a newborn photographer in Denver so you don’t miss a thing.
I know it feels early! But here’s the thing: newborn sessions are booked based on your due date, and the most in-demand photographers tend to fill up quickly. By the time you’re 20–28 weeks along, you have enough certainty about your due date to reserve a spot without worrying about being too early.
When you book with me, we use your due date to hold your place on the calendar. Once your sweet baby makes their arrival, we’ll finalize the exact date together based on how everyone is feeling and settling in.

Honestly? There’s no such thing as too early when it comes to reserving your newborn photographer in Denver! I’ve had parents reach out at 8 weeks pregnant, and I think that’s absolutely wonderful. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you’ll have in choosing the right time for your session.
If you wait until after baby arrives, there’s a chance your first-choice photographer is already fully booked for your window. And trust me — those early weeks go by faster than you can imagine!

Once baby is here, you have two main windows to choose from:
The First Two Weeks: This is the classic newborn window. Babies in this stage are still incredibly sleepy and curly. If you love the traditional newborn aesthetic with baby all snuggled up, this is your window.
Five to Eight Weeks: Some families prefer to wait a little longer. By this point, babies are slightly more alert and interactive, which creates a totally different kind of magic. This window is also a wonderful choice for parents who want a little more time to recover and settle in before their session. If the baby has an older sibling who needs more time adjusting to their new role, this is a good option for that too.
Both windows are beautiful. It really comes down to what feels right for your family!

This is one of my favorite situations to plan for because it takes all the uncertainty out of the equation! If you have a scheduled delivery date, we can go ahead and book your actual session date in advance rather than waiting for baby’s arrival. That means one less thing on your plate in those early postpartum days.
If you’re expecting a sweet little one and want to make sure you have a photographer locked in, now is the perfect time to reach out! I’d love to chat about your vision and find the perfect window for your family. Send me a message and let’s get started!
