What Happens During A Denver Newborn Photography Session?

If this is your first time booking a newborn session, it is completely normal to have absolutely no idea what to expect. You’re a new parent (or new to more kids to care for!) you’re running on very little sleep, and you’re about to welcome a photographer into one of the most tender moments of your life. I want to make sure you feel completely prepared and at ease — so let me walk you through exactly what happens during a Denver newborn photography session with me.

Before You Arrive

In the days leading up to your session, I’ll send you everything you need to know — how to prepare your baby, what to do in the hours before we meet, and what to expect from the day. My goal is for you to arrive feeling calm and taken care of, not scrambling to remember last-minute details.

When You First Arrive

There is absolutely no rushing during a newborn session. When you arrive, we take a few minutes to get settled, get your baby fed and comfortable, and just breathe. I’ll check in on how you’re all doing and we’ll talk through what you’re hoping to capture. This first part of the session is about connection and comfort — for everyone, including baby!

The Session Itself

Most newborn sessions run one to two hours, and that time is built around your baby’s lead. We work with their sleepy stretches, pause for feeding whenever they need it, and take our time transitioning between setups. I’ll guide you through every pose and placement with gentle prompts so you always know exactly what to do. You don’t need any experience in front of a camera — I’ve got you.

For posed setups, I use soft fabrics, wraps, and gentle positioning to create those dreamy, snuggled looks. For lifestyle moments, I’ll step back and let you simply be with your baby while I capture what happens naturally. Most sessions include a mix of both.

Sibling and Family Time

If you have older children joining, we typically start with them so we can capture those precious sibling moments while they’re fresh and happy. Kids have a limited window for cooperation, so we use it wisely! In contrast, if children need more time to warm up to photos, we can start with parents-only. Once siblings have had their moment, we’ll transition to baby-only setups.

After Your Session

Once we wrap up, I’ll deliver your soft-proofed images for your selection. I will carefully edit and deliver your final images in an online gallery. From there, you can download your favorites, order prints directly from your gallery, and share with all the grandparents who have been waiting not-so-patiently!
