These sessions are so much fun!!! Are you considering booking a first birthday studio milestone session with Photography by Alyssum to capture exactly where your baby is development-wise on their first birthday? I offer a basic milestone session or the optional upgrade to a cake smash session, but which is right for your little guy?
Let me give you a little insight into each session to help you decide!
Studio Milestone session
Both sessions begin with capturing baby with their immediate family members. Keeping your baby comfortable and happy is my top priority, so I have found that starting with familiar faces by their side is a great way to get them warmed up. Plus, I want to capture all of those snuggle cuddles!!
The first birthday studio milestone session is up to 60 minutes in duration. This allows enough time for an outfit change or two, including some cute shots of chubby baby skin! I have a beautiful, curated wardrobe for your family to wear. Mama’s dress above is from Baltic Born and available in my client closet!
While an hour sounds like a long time for baby to be engaged, it’s not a full hour in front of the camera. We factor in the warmup time in the beginning, outfit changes, nursing or water breaks, and baby darting out of the room to grab a new toy!
I keep the six best baby Bs on hand- bears, balloons, balls, blocks, bubbles, and books! We cycle through lots of fun and beautiful toys for baby to explore and enjoy. I love to see what baby likes the most!!
I switch in some pretty chairs for baby to rock in, sit in, and hold onto.
We mix in some pictures with mama, dada, and siblings.
First birthday cake smash session
If you’ve chosen to do a cake smash to baby’s milestone session, we take a break and bring out the cake at this time. My signature style is a naked vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting that you can order from your preferred baker (I have a couple recommendations if needed). It’s the perfect rustic style to go with the simplicity of the studio! Feel free to add on flowers or a simple embellishment.
Next we transition to the most fun of the session- the bubble bath!! Even if baby is completely exhausted at this point, they can’t resist the fun in this sweet rustic basin. The cake can be hit or miss but the splashing finale is always a favorite.
From there, we clean up baby and let them have some sweet snuggles with you.
You leave the studio with your cheeks aching from all of the smiles, a tired one year old, and whatever is left of that tasty cake!
