I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR FAMILY SESSION!

I am primarily a lifestyle photographer because I am drawn to capturing authentic moments while you interact with your loved ones. I want to showcase your family in a way that will bring  heartfelt reaction when you look back on your images. I want you to feel comfortable enough to relax and let this be an enjoyable, memory-making experience. I want you to have fun. I want your family to have something beautiful and tangible to treasure for years to come.

PRIOR TO THE SESSION I'd like to get to know you and your family so I can personalize your session as best as possible. What are your interests? What do your children enjoy/dislike? What is your style (home, clothing, etc.)? What are your goals for the session? Is there a particular location that you are looking for? I will send you a brief questionnaire to help get to know you better!

The LOCATION could be a park with mountain views, a forest area with trees and trails, a field with tall grasses, a rustic barn or old bricks, an urban setting... Let's find a place to suit your desires. In fact, I have a gallery right here in my portfolio that lays out many of my tried-and-true locations. They not only have a picturesque setting, but they also get great light! And in order to get that great light, I will always suggest shooting during the last hour or two of the day. The sun is falling perfectly behind you. This results in the soft, warm, sun kissed photographs you see throughout my portfolio.

AT THE SESSION, I will give you some direction with activities and poses, but I want you to be yourself! BE PLAYFUL, swing your kids around, BE LOVING, share a kiss with your spouse or kids, and HAVE FUN! Laugh, giggle, snuggle, PLAY! There's no pressure to look at the camera with your best "cheese" face.  This will allow me to capture images that you'll cherish- the beauty and emotion of your family while you genuinely enjoy each others company.
When planning your WARDROBE, imagine the outcome of your portraits and what you'd like to see hanging on your walls. Next, consider the elements- Are we taking a little hike to a location, in which case footwear should be considered? Will we be out in nature sitting on dirt and grass? (I always bring a blanket or two for you!) In the house cuddling on a bed? In a trendy, urban setting? Dress for the situation and location while considering your family's comfort. You've probably noticed that my outdoor family sessions include a lot of exploring, cuddling on blankets, and following the littles where they lead. Since those are the types of moments you want me to capture, I recommend Moms wearing a slightly longer dress that can float in the breeze as you dip and sway with your child. And remember that Colorado at sunset can be chilly, even in the middle of summer! Nothing ruins a happy family picture faster than a cold toddler... Please plan for layers.

With all that in mind, it's typically best to coordinate outfits to really bring the wardrobe together.  Choose one color group. Natural earth tones work best (like creams, tans and grays) with two or three main colors and one accent color (like deep burgundy or navy). Layering adds dimension to the photo – sweaters, statement necklace, blazer, etc. are great! Some things to avoid are fluorescent colors (they can cast unwanted color onto your skin) and loud patterns, logos, or graphics that could take away from the image. It's often best for only one person wearing a pattern such as flowers, stripes, checks, etc, and then the rest of the family should coordinate within your chosen color group. Another pointer: pick the outfit of the most difficult person to dress first! Then build from there. A few of my favorite online shops for women are PinkBlush (great for maternity!), Lulus, ASOS, Wren & Ivory, Free People, Revolve, BHLDN, and Morning Lavender. I envision a longer maxi dress blowing in the breeze and catching the sun through the material. For children, I love Jamie Kay, Joyfolie, Bailey's Blossoms, Hallmark Baby, Zara, and even some Target picks!! Babies should avoid two piece clothes that could ride up and show the belly as you carry them around. Rompers are my favorite for both genders! You can also find some great steals on gently used designer items for the whole family at poshmark.com! And of course, I have a carefully curated selection of gowns and baby clothes in my client wardrobe that I am able to lend out for sessions. Most of my women's dresses can be found in my motherhood gallery.

If there are any questions you have prior to your session, please reach out! I want to do everything I can to make this a memorable experience for you.
